Carers

You are a carer if you look after a family member, friend or neighbour who without your support would not be able to manage. They may have a physical or learning disability, dementia, mental health problems, may misuse drugs or alcohol or may be ill or frail.

Anyone can become a carer: Carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.

The person may live with you or elsewhere, may be an adult or a child but if they rely on you for support, then you are a carer.

It is important that we know if you do care for a family member, friend or neighbour so that we can ensure you receive the information, services and help that is available.

Care for Carers

Care for Carers looks at the intense and demanding work of carers and considers the practical, emotional and psychological costs many experience. While there are multiple challenges for carers, there are also positives. Using case studies we discuss the tools and resources available to carers, including self-care, realistic thinking and assertiveness, and consider how these can be used to build a richer and more rewarding care experience for carer and cared-for. The webinar includes information about the support offered by HPFT-IAPT for anyone interested in engaging more closely with the team.
