Extended Access Appointments (Dacorum)

To help patients access appointments outside core GP opening hours, Parkwood Surgery utilises the Dacorum Extended Access (DEA) service.

Extended Access appointments are provided at a local hub site and are available in the evenings and at weekends. These appointments are intended for patients who are unable to attend during standard surgery hours, or should the triaging GP determine that it is clinically necessary.

Where your appointment will take place

Extended Access appointments are held at:

Highfield Surgery (Lincoln House Branch Surgery)
Cambrian Way,
Hemel Hempstead,
HP2 5TA

Please note: Extended Access appointments provided by DEA are not held at Parkwood Surgery.

Appointment times

Extended Access appointments are available:

  • Weekdays: 6:30pm – 10:00pm
  • Saturdays: 9:00am – 1:00pm and 2:00pm – 6:00pm

Availability may vary depending on clinician cover and appointment type.

Who Extended Access is for

You may be offered an Extended Access appointment is you:

  • cannot attend Parkwood Surgery during core opening hours, or
  • need an appointment when daytime capacity has been reached, or
  • are offered an appointment type suitable for the Extended Access Service.

Why am I being offered an appointment at another surgery

Extended Access is commissioned to provide additional appointment capacity across local GP practices. It is designed to support patients who need appointments outside standard hours.

If you are offered an Extended Access appointment, it is because this is the most appropriate available option for the time and type of appointment you need.

What you need to know before accepting

Before confirming your appointment, please ensure you are able to:

  • attend Highfield Surgery (Lincoln House Branch) at the time and date offered
  • travel to and from the hub site
  • bring any relevant information requested by the triaging doctor (if applicable)

Please note: DEA have access to your full medical record and a copy of the consultation will be sent to Parkwood Surgery.

If you are unable, or unwilling, to attend the hub site, please let us know as soon as possible. We will discuss alternative options; however, this may mean waiting longer for an appointment at Parkwood Surgery during core hours.

What to do if you cannot attend

If you can no longer attend your Extended Access appointment, please cancel with us during core hours, or contact Highfield Surgery on 01442 254 366.
